Dead, Starving Dogs Found in Coalinga Yard; Woman Arrested

COALINGA, Calif. (KMPH) -

A Coalinga woman is facing felony animal cruelty charges after authorities say they found several dead and starving dogs on her property.

Animal Control Officers went to a home in the 400 block of East Pleasant Street after they got a complaint about some aggressive dogs.

When officers got there, they found six dead dogs and more than ten others that were starving in the yard of the home, said Coalinga Police Detective Rebecca Milligan.

While checking on the dogs, an officer had to tranquilize a large dog that tried to attack him, Milligan said.

Police say the dogs were taken to an animal shelter after finding no food on the property and consulting with a veterinarian.

Officers interviewed the property owner -- later identified as Victoria Palacios -- and arrested her on suspicion of animal cruelty.

According to the Coalinga Municipal Code, you can only have three dogs if you live within city limits.
