Tormented Dog Nearly Decapitated By Nylon Rope

MADERA, Calif. (KMPH) -

A Madera dog is recovering from a horrific case of torture that nearly decapitated him.

A Good Samaritan spotted the dog tied to a post with a nylon rope and chain deeply embedded in his neck as a collar. Animal Control Officer Chelsea Ruble took the neglected dog from the Madera backyard into emergency care.

"The vets had to cut it to get it off of him. When I reached to touch him I saw that something had cut deep into his neck. [I found him with] no shelter, no food no water, matted, shaking, he was cold," said Ruble.

Ruble named the dog "Clover" because he's lucky to be alive after what she describes as a year and a half of neglect.

The dog owner wasn't around for comment but Animal Control says he denied having anything to do with the dog.

Animal Control records show it's the second time a dog has been taken from the home in the last year.

"I felt really sad because the dog wanted attention. But he was scared," said Ruble.

Clover is on pain relievers and extra doggie treats.

His stuffed Christmas animal… his best companion… until he finds a cozy home.

Clover won't be ready for adoption for another month.

Clover is resting at the Madera County Animal Shelter, located at 14269 Road 28, Madera, CA.
