Fresno Police say a copper wire thief is off the streets.

Investigators say an officer caught up with a man in Southeast Fresno around 10 p.m. Wednesday, walking away from a city light pole that had just been stripped of its wiring.

Police say 28-year-old Eric Jackson was found carrying tin snips, pliers and a long tool used to remove copper wire from its casing.

Jackson was arrested and booked into the Fresno County Jail on charges of grand theft and possession of burglary tools.

Detectives say Jackson is a suspect in a number of other wire thefts in the area.
