KMPH is once again joining forces to raise money for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. It's a place where sick children can go for treatment at no cost to them or their families.
As in years past, a gorgeous dream home will be raffled off, and the groundbreaking took place Wednesday in Fresno.
"DeYoung Properties is proud and honored to be the donor and builder of our 5th St. Jude Dream Home," said John Ryan DeYoung.
But the heart of this story comes from a more solemn place: St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
"In March 2007, my daughter was 10-years-old when we went to the pediatrician with a headache," said Season Burch.
That headache turned out to be a cancerous brain tumor.
"I told my husband to go find the best place in the world for her and we did. It was St. Jude," Burch said.
St. Jude did for the Burch family what they do for families with sick children everywhere -- treating and taking care of their daughter regardless of their ability to pay. Four years later, Season's daughter is cancer free.
"I've been to the hospital, and I've seen a lot of the families including some of the families from our area, and it's just amazing to see. When you get to look at their faces and the joy that they get to have their child with them still because of the life-saving care at St. Jude, it really hits you in the heart," said DeYoung.
"There truly is no better charity than this charity," said Burch.
This year's St. Jude Dream Home is located in the Chestnut Grove Community at Chestnut and Teague in Northeast Fresno.
DeYoung is hoping to sell 10,000 raffle tickets for the 2,000 square-foot, three-bedroom, two-bath energy smart home at $100 a piece.
The raffle will take place November 13th live on KMPH Fox 26.
Tickets will go on sale in August.
