Outgoing Fresno Mayor, Alan Autry announced on Wednesday who he thinks should take over for him as the next Mayor of Fresno.
During his radio show on KYNO, Autry officially announced who he's endorsing in the mayor's race, "I'm voting for Ashley Swearengin," he said. The mayor cited his decision to reveal his pick on public interest and his duty as the current mayor,"I felt I was compelled to, I needed to."
Swearengin was also featured on KYNO Wednesday morning, and told Autry that her morning "just got a lot better" in reaction to his endorsement.
Swearengin is facing off against current City Councilman Henry T. Perea in the November 4th Election.
Perea released this statement following the mayor's announcement, "It's inspiring to think that in our country every vote counts the same. That's true in Fresno whether it's the Mayor or any one person across our community. I respect the Mayor and I've enjoyed working with him for the last six years but it will take more than 50,000 votes to win this election. I'm confident that with the strength of my support from Senator Feinstein, Police Officers, Firefighters and the Chamber of Commerce, the majority of local Fresno residents will share my vision for change with a safer city and better jobs."
Just last week Perea received a high profile endorsement of his own, when U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein announced she supported him in the Fresno Mayor's race.
