Anyone with information about a burglary at a Fresno business is eligible for a cash reward.
"The Fresno Police Department is offering a $5,000 reward," said Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer during a press conference on Wednesday.
Investigators say on October 13th someone broke into the KRM building, stole more than two dozen computers, 35 monitors and a laptop.
"Unfortunately, that computer contained 5,147 names of city employees, current and passed employees from the city of Fresno," said Dyer.
The confidential information stolen dates back to the early 1970's, according to Dyer.
The city hired KRM Management to process compensation claims for city workers, and that includes Fresno Police officers.
"Information in the wrong hands is alarming," said Dyer. "We don't want people in this community, that are of the criminal element, to know where police officers live.
Dyer says the identities of more than 900 past and current officers are in jeopardy, as the identities of some city workers.
Investigators believe whoever is responsible tried to cover it up by setting the KRM building on fire, luckily an employee walked into work before any major fire damage was done.
Detectives are interviewing employees and checking fingerprints. They are not ruling out the possibility that the crime was an inside job. Police are also reviewing surveillance footage taken from a nearby business. Dyer says he's confident his department will make an arrest soon.
