Preventing Meth Use in the Central Valley

According to the Drug Enforcement Agency, methamphetamine is the primary drug threat in California. And much of it is made right here in the Central Valley.

The Kings County Partnership for Prevention is a group that is fighting against meth, and trying to prevent people from getting addicted.

Their documentary "Crystal Darkness" shows former meth addicts and experts explaining how severe the addiction can be.

The chilling admissions of former meth addicts echoed through Lemoore's South Valley Community Church on Tuesday evening, as nearly a hundred people listened.

The documentary was originally shown throughout the state of Arizona to spread the word about meth addiction and encourage those struggling to get help.

The documentary featured California's Central Valley, mentioning clandestine labs where the drug is produced.

"We have a son who's been addicted to meth and he has been for twelve years," said Sherill Calhoun. The effects of addiction are a strong reality for Calhoun and her husband, District Attorney Ron Calhoun.

The organization is trying to focus on reaching younger kids before they start using drugs.

If you need help with drug or alcohol abuse, and you live in Kings County, call the 24-hour crisis hotline at 1-877-864-9290.
