Elsewhere, the Los Angeles Angels beat the Seattle Mariners 4-2; the New York Yankees defeated the Oakland Athletics 4-3; the Arizona Diamondbacks topped the San Diego Padres 5-2; and the San Francisco Giants beat the Colorado Rockies 2-1.

SANTA ANA, Calif. (AP) - The attorney for a man accused of killing Los Angeles Angels pitcher Nick Adenhart and two others in a drunken-driving crash can't introduce evidence that the driver of Adenhart's car may also have been drinking. An Orange County Superior Court judge said yesterday that the evidence is irrelevant in Andrew Gallo's triple-murder trial. The 22-year-old Adenhart, the driver and another passenger died last year.

SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) - Mike Singletary had to separate tight end Vernon Davis and wide receiver Michael Crabtree after the players got into a heated discussion at practice yesterday. Singletary says the issue was non-football related and is closed. He met with both players. Neither Crabtree nor Davis has played this preseason because of injuries and Singletary ruled out Davis for tonight's preseason finale against San Diego.

SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) - San Jose Sharks CEO Greg Jamison is stepping down from his job running the day-to-day operations of the club. The team said yesterday that Jamison's last day as CEO will be Oct. 1. A search for a replacement will begin soon. Jamison will remain part of the ownership. He took over as president in 1996.

TUKWILA, Wash. (AP) - Nate Jaqua (zhah-KWAH') scored twice, Fredy Montero added a goal and the defending U.S. Open Cup champion Seattle Sounders advanced to the title game with a 3-1 victory over Chivas USA last night.
