Fresno Rental Co. Feeling the Heat from Angry Tenants

A local property management company is feeling the heat from angry tenants.  They say J.D. Home Rentals in Fresno won't fix their busted AC units.  The Better Business Bureau says this isn't the first time someone has filed a complaint.

Fresno, Calif.  (KMPH News) — Fans in every room.  That's how this Fresno woman keeps her house cool.  The 105 degree heat feels like an inferno for Vickie Thor.

"The rising heat and the air conditioner that they won't fix, that's really affecting the health of my kids," Thor said.

She's living in a two bedroom apartment in southeast Fresno without a working air conditioning unit.

"My son has developed a rash due to the fact that they couldn't fix my air conditioner yet," Thor said.

A doctor's note says the 9–year–old is suffering from a heat rash.  Thor claims she initially sent her property management company a letter on June 15th requesting a repair.

"I can call them as many as ten times a day and they would not do anything about it," Thor said.

KMPH News contacted J.D. Home Rentals in Fresno.  A representative at their business office on east Belmont Avenue had no comment.  But, the Better Business Bureau (BBB) has plenty to say.  It gives the property management company an "F" rating.  The BBB Reliability Report also says there are 13 complaints filed against the business.

Javier Torreblanca says he was also without a working AC for nearly a month.  A repair crew fixed it this week, after the media contacted JD Home Rentals.

Torreblanca said "It's unjust because they demand rent be paid on time, but they don't come fix things when we call."

Thor says a massive hole in her closet make things worse, her bedroom hotter.

"It's been there for two years but they won't fix it," Thor said.  "The heat comes through here so I have to make sure I close the closet door and rarely ever open it."

Thor plans on heading to one of the city's cooling centers this weekend.  Until then, her children will have to depend on fans to keep them cool through the day and night.

"I have it here [fan] so it can blow air at my kids while they are sleeping," Thor said.

Thor said a repairman from J.D. Home Rentals did stop by her apartment Friday night.  He told her that he fixed the AC.  But, she says the air is still not working.
