Man Killed In Train Accident In Fresno

By Winston Whitehurst

A man was killed Sunday night in a train accident in northwest Fresno.

Police say the accident happened right before sunset.

The man, said to be in his forties, was walking on the railroad tracks, with his back to the train.

The conductor saw him fast approaching, but couldn't slow down the train in time.

Officers say the accident should be a lesson to everyone: stay off the railroad tracks.

"We would urge that people obey the law and remember that walking on the railroad tracks is not allowed. Not only is it against the law, it's not safe. With instances like this, this could be the tragic result," said Sgt. Brian Phillips.

The coroner's office is expected to release the man's name at a later time.
