
The City of Fresno is getting more help in it's efforts to spread the word about the 2010 U.S. Census.
On Friday, the Fresno Regional Foundation presented a $10,000 check to Fresno Mayor Ashley Swearengin to go towards the city's census outreach efforts.
"I can't emphasize strongly enough how important it is for all Fresno residents to participate in the U.S. Census," Mayor Swearengin said. "I commend the Fresno Regional Foundation and its board of directors for recognizing its importance and stepping up to the plate to help us do everything we can to encourage our residents to fill out the census forms and send them in as soon as possible."
The 2010 U.S. Census forms are scheduled to arrive this week to hundreds of thousands of people across the valley. The information gathered from the forms will be used to determine populations and how to distribute government funds over the next 10 years.
"It will take these type of commitments and broad partnerships to help us in our efforts to make sure that everyone is counted," said Fresno City Council member Blong Xiong.
The funds will also help the city continue on-going outreach efforts such as public service announcements and census-related events.
