The investigation into Delaware Pediatrician Earl Bradley reveals videotapes with his young patients. Molesting them while their parents wait in nearby exam rooms.
According to Fresno Doctor Luis Bautista, unless your child is in a life or death situation, parents and children should not be separated.
Dr. Bautista says, "when you're examining children, the parents have to be with the kids 100% of the time."
If someone tells you otherwise, you have the right to object.
Julia Moreno–Vega with Fresno Council on Child Abuse Prevention says, "you don't have to go along with it. You have the right to say yes or no. And you have the right to take your child to another doctor as well."
Pay attention to your surroundings. Be aware of how the doctors and nurses interact with each other. She says many times you'll alert yourself to trouble.
Moreno-Vega says, "if your gut is telling you something isn't feeling right, especially when it comes to your children. You really need to follow through with that gut feeling. Pay attention to it, it's there for a reason."
Your child can also give you signs.
Moreno-Vega says, "paying attention to your child's body language, paying attention to how they react in certain situations. And also to how they react to individuals."
Even adults can be scared to go the doctor. But if your child is acting out. Ask them why.
Moreno-Vega says, "children should be able to make their own decisions as to what they feel comfortable with and if they don't want to give someone a hug or they don't want to give someone a kiss, they should have that right to say yes or no."
So even if you go to a certain doctor for insurance reasons, if you don't feel right about it, Dr. Bautista says, "we live in America, you have the freedom to select whoever you want. You have to have that relationship. If you don't feel comfortable, get somebody else."
