Merced Police are asking for the public's help in investigating a recent drive–by shooting.
The shooting occurred at Conestoga and Austin Thursday night around 8 p.m.
The victim told police he had been walking on the sidewalk when the driver of a dark green, compact vehicle shot him in the leg.
The suspect then sped away.
The victim then walked from Conestoga Drive to Olive Ave where he collapsed on a sidewalk. He was later found by police who took him to Mercy Community Medical Center where he is now recovering.
Officers say it's too early to tell if this was a random or gang–related shooting.
Anyone with information on the incident is being urged to call Detective Keith Pelowski at 209 385-4712 or the tip-line at 209 385-4725.
