A Fresno County Sheriff's Deputy is on the other side of the law, after a bizarre morning car crash Wednesday.
Brian Hillis, a deputy sheriff for the last 14 years, was arrested by Fresno Police around 7:30 a.m. Wednesday morning.
Dispatchers received numerous 911 calls from people about the deputy's driving, saying he was driving erratically and at a high rate of speed.
Hillis started off on Highway 168 near Fowler, then continued on the 180, then southbound 99 toward Selma, and northbound 99 before finally exited 41 at Bullard. However Hillis couldn't make the turn on the off-ramp, and struck a curb.
A CHP officer was nearby and responded to the accident; Hillis was taken to Community Regional Medical Center.
Police say alcohol didn't appear to be involved, but it appears he was under the influence of some kind of controlled substance.
Hillis was released from the hospital and arrested under a misdemeanor charge of driving under the influence. He was booked in the Fresno Co Jail, then released.
Toxicology results are expected next week. For now, Hillis remains on paid administrative leave.
