It's beginning to feel a lot more like winter!

On Monday, Valley residents awoke to rain and snow across the Central Valley.

According to the National Weather Service, the rain was expected to last throughout the day Monday with winds of up to 11-15 mph. The rain was set to let up on Tuesday, but expected to return on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

Up in Strathmore, Tonyville, Big Creek and Porterville, snow was also reported. Snow levels were expected to be around 1,000 ft.

A freeze watch was issued by the NWS from Midnight to 9 a.m. for the San Joaquin Valley. A winter storm warning was also issued from Yosemite through the Kern County Mountains from midnight to 9 a.m.

The cold and extreme weather has also prompted officials in Visalia and Fresno to open warming facilities for Monday and Tuesday night.

The Visalia Rescue Mission as agreed to take in people on nights that are below 30 degrees. The mission is located off Northeast First St. For more information, you can call 713–4600. The rescue mission will also provide food.

In Fresno people can keep warm at the Frank H. Ball warming center. The center will be open from 8:30 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. when the temperature is 36 degrees and below. The center is located at 760 Mayor Avenue in Fresno. You can call at (559) 488-1502‎.
