Cuts to state and local budgets have led to a number of furloughs across the board.
In Fresno County those furloughs include the Fresno County Library, which will be closed on Wednesday. It's the first of several closures over the next month or so, with libraries also being closed on December 24th and December 31st.
Each county department was ordered earlier this year to implement 40 hours of furlough by June of 2010.
The majority of the Library's budget comes from property taxes and Measure B sales tax revenue, which have dropped to levels as low as five years ago.
"We are doing our best to balance the budget without sacrificing service," said Karen Bosch Cobb, Fresno County Librarian. "Our mission to provide customers with outstanding value and excellent service in our libraries and through technology is our priority during these difficult economic times."
