The father of Olympic snowboarder, Andy Finch, was sentenced Tuesday morning for his role in a shootout with police two years ago.
Cliff Finch was able to avoid jail time, instead being sentenced to 5 years probation for a felony assault charge, 200 hours of community service and a $3,900 fine to pay the city back in restriction fees.
Finch originally entered an insanity plea in the case. His family says the decorated veteran, was having a Vietnam war flashback when he led officers on a high speed chase, eventually opening fire on them.
But last month, Finch withdrew his insanity plea, and pleaded guilty to assault with a firearm.
In exchange, prosecutors dropped the charge of assault against a police officer.
In court, the judge acknowledged Finch's delayed on-set of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder because of combat.
