Former gang members in Fresno are getting a hand to lead more productive lives.
The Fresno Regional Foundation announced a $10,000 donation to the Mayor Ashley Swearengin's Gang Prevention Initiative .
The money will go towards the city's tattoo removal program.
Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer says tattoos are often the biggest obstacle for former gang members looking for new jobs, and help them leave the gang lifestyle for good.
"These types of donations are the very things that are going to allow us to be the great city we are and we have been. I promise the Fresno Reg Foundation we will make this money lasting in our community," Dyer said.
Dyer says 52 participants are having their tattoos removed, and another 67 are on a waiting list. It costs about $72 a square inch for tattoo removal treatment.
So far the program has successfully removed over 2,500 square inches.
