Madera Mayor, Sam Armentrout, made a sad announcement Thursday morning.
Armentrout confirmed he has been diagnosed with an acute form of Leukemia.
"Of course this comes as a major shock to me and my family. We intend to join the fight against this terrible disease and plan to join the ranks of Cancer survivors, "Armentrout said in a press release. "While I recognize that I am about to enter a long and strenuous battle I am strengthened by my personal faith and the support I have from my family, friends, and the many calls I have received from my fellow Maderans."
Despite the fact that Armentrout will begin treatments for the disease at Stanford Medical Center next week, the mayor says he will continue his civic duties. Those duties includes his job as Mayor, as well as the Director of Transportation/Public Safety for the Madera Unified School District.
Anyone who wishes to contact Armentrout can do so by first contacting City Administrator David Tooley at (559) 661-5400.
