Fresno Man Who Shot Victim For His Car Deemed Incompetent For Trial

Posted:

A murder suspect, who was on the run for nearly two months, has been deemed incompetent to stand trial.

31-year-old Kenneth Wilson was committed to Atascadero State Mental Hospital after his arraignment on Monday.

Wilson was arrested after an intense manhunt for the 2008 murder of 34-year-old Julio Barajas in Auberry. Barajas was trying to sell his car to Wilson, when witnesses say Wilson shot and killed him, then stole the car.

During his arraignment, Wilson's attorney tried to give the judge a not guilty plea, but Wilson interrupted saying he was guilty and that he wanted the death sentence.

If Wilson ever does stand trial, and is convicted, he could spend up to 25 years to life in prison.
